Saturday was the perfect day for a fashion show in Indy. After the wind settled down, it was just glorious. I traveled to Hamilton County Mall to enjoy a show entitled Rescues & Runways sponsored by the oh-so-trendy store Maurices. The DJ was jamming featuring everything from Pink to Salt & Peppa. The show was so much fun. Each model displayed a fall trend along with a dog that was available for adoption from the Humane Society for Hamilton County or Waldo’s Muttley Crew. It was a wonderful time spent with darling dogs, fashion and great people.
Maurices manager Lecca Smith (right in right photo) and Emily Longnecker (left in right photo) from WTHR Channel 13 News were the MCs for the event. I enjoyed how they not only described the outfits, but also told the name of the dog, described their personality/story, and how you could adopt them. Believe me when I say the dogs took over the show. One leaped off stage, another had an “accident” on the red carpet, and another just laid there at one point. Ha! It was hilariously cute. The models displayed fall casual, work and evening trends.
Smith informed me that over 800 Maurices stores contribute to Rescues & Runways. Wow! Isn’t that amazing? Altogether they have raised $75,000 for the cause. The money is split between the Humane Society for Hamilton County and Waldo’s Muttley Crew. The fashion show is just a vehicle to get the word out about adopting the dogs. Smith assured me that it wasn’t about the clothing, but about the precious animals. I spotted a few that I wanted to snag. Ha!
The vendors included Camp Bow Bow, Nutripet, Humane Society for Hamilton County, Waldo’s Muttley Crew, BMO, Three Dog Bakery and Famous Daves. (If I missed any please forgive me.) All the vendors were friendly and passionate about their cause. Plenty of activities took place for everyone including silent auctions for adults and children, free gift bags were distributed, face painting and more.
I encourage you to open up your home to a dog, if you are able and willing. These animals are just looking for love, support and someone to accept them for who they are. Hmm… sounds like us too. Ha! Contact the Humane Society for Hamilton County or Waldo’s Muttley Crew to do so today.
Thank you Maurices for sponsoring such a lovely show and worthy cause. Of course I took more photos, take a peek below.
