A while ago I was browsing online at street style from other countries, I noticed that those women are not afraid to step out of the box. The box of style that is! I saw pearls wrapped around a woman’s body for crying outloud. Did I mention it looked fabulous? I was so inspired I created a video about it on my YouTube channel, which you can check out here.
Today’s look was inspired from a woman I saw in France. She paired a flannel plaid shirt with a charming maxi skirt. Maybe to you that is not unusual, but to me even with all my random pairings I’m not sure I would have paired my pleated skirt with a plaid flannel. I love when someone does something different, and it actually works.
That’s what fashion is all about. Taking risks! Risks make fashion fun. I hope this posts inspires you to try something new friends. If you are not sure how to take that first risky step keep reading. I got you covered.
Below is my inspired look from good ole France. I dug out my plaid flannel (literally because I forgot all about this shirt) and declared, “This will work.” Ironed it and viola, good as new. I left a couple buttons undone and tied it upfront, I left it untucked in the back to add some edge. This pleated skirt is a gem I found at Plato’s closet for $8. Score! The color is gorgeous and it’s so lightweight.
My tote is also from Plato’s. I love how huge it is. I didn’t think my necklace would work when I first glanced at it, but once I put it on I thought, “Yeah buddy.” It adds so much grace to this look. I apologize I didn’t get a close up of my earrings. But they are gorgeous colored stones inside a gemmed circle. I think you can see a glimmer of them in the photos.
I also have a video showcasing this look, check it out here.
- Don’t be afraid to think outside the box. Think, “What would I normally do.” Then do the opposite. You would normally pair a pleated skirt with a nice, buttoned up collared shirt. But in this case maybe pair it with a relaxed boyfriend tee.
- Pick a theme. Once you decide to take more risks start simple. Sticking to a theme helps you stay focused and can generate a lot of ideas. Going back to the relaxed tee paired with a pleated skirt example, pair that outfit with flats or converse shoes. Wear your hair in a messy bun with a headband, etc. We are going for a comfy, yet put together look.
- Be confident. Rock your look! If you feel the slightest bit uncomfortable it’ll show. Sometimes you may have to fake it, but try not too. Believe in your creation! Remember fashion is FUN.
