Hotter days are upon us, which means better hair care is a must. No excuses! Extra exposure to the sun’s harmful UV rays is just not good for the tresses. To help you keep your hair strong and beautiful I caught up with cosmetologist Mrs. Ebony E. Styles Stroder, who is owner of Eclectic Elegance Salon.
Stroder’s willing to offer her advice on how to keep the locks in check this summer. Take a peek at her tips.
1.Wet your hair and apply a moisturizing conditioner before entering chlorine.
If your hair is wet before you enter a pool, and you apply conditioner, it won’t soak up as much chlorine. The conditioner can also act as a protectant on the hair prior to shampooing out any chlorine.
2. Shampoo immediately after you have entered chlorine or salt water.
Chlorine and salt water can dry the hair and scalp. If left untreated with the combination of the sun, it can decrease the moisturizer of the hair. Make sure you are using a clarifying shampoo to remove fluorine residue from the hair.
3. Take special care of color-treated hair.
Hair that has been dyed or highlighted is especially prone to UV damage. The sun will make the cuticle even rougher, which makes hair more fragile and dried out. Take care of color-treated hair by deep conditioning your hair using a product containing keratin (protein) jojoba oil, wheat germ protein or other natural ingredients that help increase moisture, shine and elasticity.
4. Schedule professional deep conditioners. Hair that regularly gets exposed to the sun needs regular deep conditioners and moisture replenishment.
Hair can get sunburned just like the scalp. Hair products and conditioners that contain moisturizers and SPF protection will work wonders for your hair. Conditioners with jojoba oil, peppermint oil, shea butter and aloe vera are awesome for hydrating sun kissed tresses.
5. Be religious about your trims.
Make sure you are staying consistent with your trims during the hot summer months. Ideally every 6-8 weeks is good, or make sure it is done with every chemical service.
These are some fabulous tips! Your hair is apart of your beauty ladies. Take care of it! Do you have any special tips Peekers?
