Some things are too important to compromise. Actress, Raven Symone said this in a movie entitled For One Night.
According to Webster’s Dictionary compromise means a surrender of one’s principles. Surrender means to yield, to give the power to another.
How many times have you surrendered your power to another? Why did you compromise? To fit in? To feel better about yourself? Compromising is apart of life, right? However, I don’t believe it has to be.
In high school I remember a lot of people compromising personal beliefs in order to fit in with a certain group. Or to simply not be called a coward. I recall someone taking a sip of alcohol and later becoming addicted. I saw someone take a puff of a joint and is still taking that puff today. I’m not saying compromising always leads to addiction. However, if your beliefs aren’t strong enough you will continue to compromise until you no longer believe your principals.
I figure that if your beliefs are strong no one can cause you to surrender. No one. High school is full of people that compromise, but you don’t have to. Believe me, in the long run it’s beneficial. People who compromise wish they had the guts to say no. Be that example they need to stand on.
Someone once said we are all born unique but many of us die copies. I wonder if many die copies, because they are willing to compromise in order not to be different? I wonder if it was worth it in the end? Too many people are willing to compromise for a brief moment of pleasure. I challenge you to stand strong against adversity. Dare to be different!
I believe if you’re willing to compromise you don’t truly believe in your beliefs yourself?! ©
