“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” –Martin Luther King Jr.
On this special day we honor Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and legacy. He helped pave the way for not only me but so many others, and for that I am thankful. Today as we reflect on such a great man, I cannot help but think of all the diverse relationships I have developed because of what Martin Luther King Jr. and many other activists fought for.
One relationship that outshines all the rest is the one with my husband Erik.
I thought it was only fitting to share photos of my wonderful husband and I on this special day. To think only 50 years ago our relationship would be life threatening is incomprehensible to me. The fact that we still get side eyed and receive ignorant comments shows there is still progress to be made.
The fact that my man is white could not be any less important to me. He is not judged by his skin in my eyes, but by his heart. Erik has won my heart forever.
I can’t help but to cry as I write these words to you all friends. My life would be so different without this man standing by my side. Thank you Martin Luther King Jr. for fighting for our rights as human beings. Your dream continues to come true through us each and everyday.
“I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.” –Martin Luther King Jr.
Thank you Amber Prowse Photography for all the beautiful photos.
